How to Add Widgets on iPhone

Continuing the topic about those handy mini-apps called widgets, we decided to move from Android platform to the iOS one. And if you still don’t have some awesome Weather, News, Calendar, Siri or Music widget, this tutorial will teach you how to add widgets to your iPhone!  

The iOS 10 is stuffed with cool improvements that elevate it above the Android. And one of the perks is the Today View feature. It provides you not only with the pre-installed widgets made by Apple but also allows you to include such applications from various third-party developers.

How to Add Widgets on iPhone 6 

Initially, there are four ways to access the widgets section:  

  • Notification Center
  • Lock screen
  • Home screen
  • 3D Touch 

We’ll discuss all of these options for you to customize your phone. It’s simple, really!

Step 1. Press the Home / Power button to wake up an iPhone. 

Step 2. Drag down the notification bar from a top edge of the screen. Now you see the Notification Center - a home for widgets on iOS.  

Step 3. You need to select the “Today” section. Then scroll down as far as possible. Under the “Do Not Include” list, you’ll see all widgets available to add on iPhone 6. 

Step 4. Now look for an “Edit” button. Tap it to enter "Add and Remove Widgets on iPhone" panel of the Notification Center. 

Step 5. Next to the widget's name, you’ll see a green plus sign icon. To add any needed product, just tap this button.  

Step 6. If you want to rearrange your widgets, press and hold the 3-line handle (☰) next to the widget's title (on the right side). Then drag it in order to change the product’s position. All active widgets are displayed on top of the list. And the bottom contains all the currently disabled ones. 

Step 7. To disable a widget, you must click on a red minus symbol next to the chosen product's title. However, if you decide to completely delete a widget from the iPhone, you’ve have to uninstall the app that comes with it. 

Step 8. After you finished editing your widgets, tap a ‘Done’ button to exit the configuration mode. 

Adding widgets through the Lock screen  

Step 1. Press the Home button to see the Lock Screen.

Step 2. From here, swipe right.

Step 3. On the appeared ‘Today’ screen swipe down to the bottom of the “Today”.

Step 4. Click on ‘Edit’ button to visit the editing screen.

Step 5. Check the list of all the available widgets. Then tap on the green ‘+’ button, as we described, and add any app you want.

Step 6. You can reorder and remove your applications in the same way as it was established for Notification Center.

Step 7. Don’t forget to press on a ‘Done’ icon in the top right corner. 

Note: There might be a request to enter the unlock code when you try to access some of the widgets.

To get set up a preferred widget on your Home screen, follow this instruction: 

Step 1. Activate the Home screen.

Step 2. Next, swipe to the right to go into the “Today View”.

Step 3. From there, swipe up downwards to the bottom of the screen.

Step 4. Find the ‘Edit’ icon (screen’s lower-middle part) and click on it.

Step 5. Use the good old green plus that is positioned right near a widget.

Step 6. Tap on the ‘Done’ button to accept the changes. 

3D Touch feature 

Now, the coolest part! If you have an iPhone 6s and higher, you’re able to use the 3D Touch which makes new widget system of iOS 10 just magnificent.  It allows users to add widgets that are offered by stock apps and some of the installed ones.

How do you trigger this action?

Step 1: Look for the app with widget support on your Home screen.

Step 2: Press firmly on an app’s icon to use the 3D Touch menu. If the application offers the option, the widget module will be visible above or underneath the regular Quick Actions menu.

Step 3: Then just choose the “Add Widget” on the top right side of such module.
